Description
Paulino Bernabe Sr. (1932-2007) studied with Daniel Fortea, a student of Francisco Tárrega, and became interested in guitar making. In 1954, the young Paulino Bernabe became an apprentice luthier and eventually head of the renowned Jose Ramirez workshop. In 1969, Bernabe left Ramirez to open his own workshop in Madrid.
Although deeply rooted in Madrid’s old guitar-making school, Paulino Bernabe was a great innovator and experimenter. He developed his own bracing system and construction methods that gave his guitars a unique sound with strong bass and clear overtones.
His quest for these tonal qualities began in the early 1970s with a then-radical bracing system using five braces (he later changed this to seven).
